BFC OPEN REHEARSAL & TENOR BURSARIES

As one of Britain’s leading symphony choruses, BFC is always on the lookout for new members. Regular Guest Rehearsals take place on the first Tuesday of the month throughout the year; however each autumn we hold an Open Rehearsal at our rehearsal home, the BSMS Lecture Theatre on the University of Sussex campus, which is our main recruitment event.

This year’s Open Rehearsal takes place on Tuesday 4 October at 7.00pm. We are looking forward to welcoming budding and experienced singers keen to participate in performing large-scale classical choral works to the highest standards with leading conductors and orchestras at major UK venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Brighton Dome.

·       Do you have a love of choral music and have previously sung in a choir or played an instrument?

·       Are you able to commit to Chorus rehearsals and performances?

·       Would you appreciate the opportunity to join a 150-strong semi-professional choir?

Our Music Director, James Morgan, combines careers as a conductor and record producer. He regularly works with the BBC Singers and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and we also benefit from regular rehearsals from leading Chorus Directors from English National Opera and other top London choirs. We work with all of the major London orchestras and internationally renowned conductors.

Our exciting 2022-23 season includes a performance of Orff’s monumental Carmina Burana in the Royal Albert Hall, Christmas Concerts in the Royal Festival Hall and Brighton Dome, a performance of Bach, St. Matthew Passion with the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra in Brighton Dome and the closing concert of the Brighton Festival in 2023.

If concerts like these inspire you, do come along at 7.00pm on Tuesday 4 October, meet some of our Chorus members, enjoy an evening’s rehearsal and a glass of wine and see if you would be interested in joining us. You can even do our straightforward audition on the same night if you wish (- bring a simple song – a well-known Christmas Carol, for example, would be fine – along with you). Get in touch with us (membershipsecretary@bfc.org.uk). We’ll reserve a place and some music for you!

All voice parts are welcome – and we even have £500 bursaries available for enthusiastic young Tenors aged 18-30 who are completely new to singing. The bursary is designed to get you on track with some private singing lessons to go alongside your BFC membership if singing with a Symphony Chorus is something you’ve always dreamed of.

Perhaps you already know that BFC is for you and can’t wait to join us! If you would like to arrange an audition straight away, drop Christine Tarry a line (auditions@bfc.org.uk).

Regular Brighton Festival Chorus rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings from 7.15pm-9.45pm on the University of Sussex campus. The Chorus performs several times a year in Brighton and London. There is a friendly vibe and the social aspect is strong.  For membership enquiries and further information about the Tenor Bursaries Scheme, e-mail: membershipsecretary@bfc.org.uk.
