BFC Friends and Patrons

Since its foundation in 1968, Brighton Festival Chorus has been regarded as one of the top choirs in the UK. As we enter our next half century, members past and present are justifiably proud of their achievements and are determined that the Chorus will flourish for another 50 years!

We are that rare beast – a large scale amateur chorus working at the highest level but without a link to, and therefore funding by, a major orchestra.

As well as performing each year at the Brighton Festival, BFC is regularly engaged by leading orchestras and conductors throughout the UK and Europe.  In 2018 Chorus engagements included performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Brighton, London and Coventry; the Britten Sinfonia in Brighton and l’Orchestre de Picardie in Brighton and France.

In addition, an annual series of choral concerts is promoted by the Chorus in Brighton and beyond to present choral music in exciting and accessible ways, often featuring less well known choral repertoire and our wonderful Brighton Festival Youth Choir.

Our Friends and Patrons understand the importance of philanthropic support of the arts, acknowledging that ticket income alone is not sufficient to support concerts of the originality and excellence with which BFC performs.

They know what a difference their support can make. It will enable us to engage a larger orchestra, more top class soloists, or create adventurous works that require more rehearsal.

Will you join us?  We can promise you wonderful music, some different ways of hearing and seeing choral music and the feeling of having enabled something special to get off the ground.

Become a Patron

Our Patrons enjoy the closest association with the work of the Chorus. Their philanthropic support can help us commission new choral works, fund exciting own-promotion concerts, further advance the musical development of the Chorus and extend our work with young people.

Become a Friend

Our Friends are our most loyal and enthusiastic supporters. Many have sung with the Chorus in past years and are delighted to retain their involvement, others just love choral music.

In return for your support we will closely involve you in our work.

We will:-

  • Acknowledge your support in our programmes and on the website
  • Send regular newsletters to keep you fully informed about our concerts and events
  • Involve you in the use of your donation
  • Invite you to rehearsals to see at first hand the creative process
  • Give advance notice of all own promotion concerts
  • Reserve seating at own promotion concerts where possible.

Patrons are invited to make a minimum annual donation of £100 or more.

Friends are encouraged to give a minimum annual donation of £25 as an individual or £40 as Joint Friends.

‘Your support will allow us to flourish in our own right. It would free us from just being a 'choir for hire' and instead give us the opportunity to develop our own innovative and creative programmes.
This would help us to our goal of becoming the UK’s preeminent symphony chorus, as well as finding a new and bigger audience for our work.
Thank you – we look forward to welcoming you at our concerts.’

James Morgan: Music Director
