To sing with a large chorus (around 170 voices) is an amazing experience. We are a very sociable group and enjoy ourselves whilst working hard and maintaining high standards.

Rehearse with us

We are delighted to hear at any time from anyone interested in joining us. The best way to find out more is to come along to one of our Guest Rehearsals or Open Rehearsals, and sing with us for an evening.

Open rehearsal

We hold an annual Open Rehearsal every October at the University of Sussex, Falmer, which we advertise locally. If you missed the last one, or can't wait until the next one, you are very welcome to come to one of our monthly Guest Rehearsals.

Guest rehearsal

Each month we have a Guest Rehearsal, where you can just turn up and sing with us as our guest. They are normally on the first Tuesday of each month, but sometimes we have to move the date. Please contact us on if you would like to join us at our next Guest Rehearsal.

Where do we rehearse?

Our regular rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7.15pm to 9.45pm, usually at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex, Falmer, near Brighton. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled at busy times, if required.  For a site map of the University campus, see (number 47).

If you would like to become a member of BFC, you will need to pass a simple audition.

The audition lasts just a few minutes. It is held in private, with just the Music Director and the accompanist present. You will be asked to sing a simple piece you have brought along (nothing too clever - just something that suits your voice). There are a couple of ear tests (for example, sing the middle note of three played on the piano), and about 30 seconds of sight-reading. And that's it!

To find out more about joining Brighton Festival Chorus or to arrange an audition please contact our Auditions Secretary, Christine Tarry, on 01903 815467 - or use our contact page.

All members pay an annual subscription. The rates are currently

  • £180 (or £15 per month).
  • £30 (or £10 per term) for students, members on benefits or those who are unwaged.
