Brighton Festival Chorus is a large and hardworking choir with an impressive portfolio. The Chorus has performed in a wide variety of venues, both at home and abroad, including major concert halls such as the Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican, Symphony Hall Birmingham, The Bridgewater Hall and Glyndebourne. We have also enjoyed performing in the splendour of open air events at Leeds Castle and the city centre of Lille, and in the captivating atmospherics of smaller venues such as the Arsenal at Metz and the unique St Bartholomew’s Church in Brighton. We are privileged to be able to work with many of the world’s most notable conductors, soloists and orchestras.

To be part of this large chorus (over 170 voices) is an amazing experience and under the dedication and enthusiasm of James Morgan, our Music Director, the Chorus has gone from strength to strength and is one of the most sought-after choirs in the country. Our standards are high and we work hard whilst remaining a very sociable group with a great collective sense of humour.

Please contact us if you would like to find out more about being a member of Brighton Festival Chorus. We are delighted to hear at any time from those who are interested in joining. We have a short, straightforward audition process lasting just a few minutes. See Find Out More below.

Every year we hold an Open Rehearsal, when we open our doors to anyone who would like to come along, sing with us for an evening, and find out more about membership. To find out where and when the next one is happening, see Forthcoming Performances & Events (select Performances, then click on Forthcoming from the drop-down list). Alternatively, see Find Out More below.

Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7.15pm to 9.45pm, usually at the Medical School Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex, Falmer, near Brighton. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled at busy times, if required.  For a site map of the University campus, see (number 47).

The Chorus is funded by means of an annual membership subscription with additional concert and performance income. The level of subscription is established annually and communicated to the members at or before the AGM following recommendations from the Treasurer.

Auditions last just a few minutes. They are held in private, with just the Music Director and the accompanist present. You will be asked to sing a simple piece you have brought along (nothing too clever - a bit of a hymn would be ideal!). There are a couple of ear tests (for example, sing the middle note of three played on the piano), and about 30 seconds of sight-reading. And that's it!

To find out more about joining Brighton Festival Chorus or to arrange an audition please contact our Auditions Secretary, Christine Tarry, on 01903 815467 - or use our contact page.
