What we do

We are a large and hardworking choir, privileged to be able to work with many of the world’s most notable conductors, soloists and orchestras. We have performed in some of the major concert halls in the UK and Europe, and we are always on the lookout for new singers!

To be part of this large chorus (over 170 voices) is an amazing experience. Our standards are high and we work hard whilst remaining a very sociable group with a great collective sense of humour.

Rehearse with us

We are delighted to hear at any time from anyone interested in joining us. The best way to find out is to come along to one of our Guest Rehearsals or Open Rehearsals, and sing with us for an evening.

Starting on September 10th, and thereafter on the first Tuesday of each month, we are introducing a Guest Rehearsal. Please contact us on if you would like to come along as a guest to sing with us for the evening.

In addition, we hold an annual Open Rehearsal, normally in October. These are very popular and well-attended. To find out when the next one is happening, see our Forthcoming Performances page.

Our regular rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7.15pm to 9.45pm, usually at the Medical School Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex, Falmer, near Brighton. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled at busy times, if required.  For a site map of the University campus, see (number 47).

If you would like to become a member of BFC, you will need to pass a simple audition.

The audition lasts just a few minutes. It is held in private, with just the Music Director and the accompanist present. You will be asked to sing a simple piece you have brought along (nothing too clever - a bit of a hymn would be ideal!). There are a couple of ear tests (for example, sing the middle note of three played on the piano), and about 30 seconds of sight-reading. And that's it!

To find out more about joining Brighton Festival Chorus or to arrange an audition please contact our Auditions Secretary, Christine Tarry, on 01903 815467 - or use our contact page.

All members pay an annual subscription, with special rates for students, the unwaged and those on benefits.
